Getting Started
Al-Anon offers many resources to support your recovery journey. While printed materials are available at meetings, here are some key concepts to get started.
The Three Cs
- You didn't CAUSE it - Alcoholism is a disease, not your fault
- You can't CONTROL it - You cannot make someone stop drinking
- You can't CURE it - Recovery is the alcoholic's choice and journey
The 12 Steps
Al-Anon's 12-step program provides a framework for personal growth and recovery. The steps guide members toward acceptance, personal responsibility, and spiritual growth.
Self-Care Tips
- Focus on your own wellbeing, not fixing the alcoholic
- Set and maintain healthy boundaries
- Attend Al-Anon meetings regularly
- Connect with a sponsor for one-on-one support
- Read Al-Anon literature daily
- Practice self-compassion and patience
